About Grant

Growing up on a family farm in rural Saskatchewan taught me a few key values - a strong work ethic matters, nothing replaces the value of the land and the KISS principal (keep it simple, stupid).

Then I learned how to learn in the university years. Next, becoming a professional engineer for 30 years constantly exposed me to the importance of researching the facts and applying due diligence to responsible decision making.

Being an entrepreneur and business owner for 20 years challenged me to develop an advanced level of financial literacy. The critical importance of good debt vs bad debt and cash flow were ever-present.

Taking full responsibility for our personal finances 15 years ago opened my eyes to risks and opportunities beyond what was available from any financial advisor.

A lifelong interest in history combined with retirement’s time flexibility has broadened my risk and opportunity horizons to include macroeconomics and the investigation of multi-generational cycles.

This blog is the next step in my journey.
